ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2022-2023 – REVIEW

The AGM for the year 2022-2023 was held on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the St. Albert Legion #271.

Registration was at 11:30 and lunch was served, buffet style, at 12:00. Thanks to the staff at Diner 271 for once again putting on a very delicious lunch and dessert!

On the business side of things, of note was that the Board of Directors, consisting of 10 chairs, lost one member. Jonathan Smethurst has decided to step down. All eight of the remaining directors have agreed to remain for another term. No new nominations were received so the bord will operate with 8 filled chairs and 2 vacancies. If anyone from our membership is interested in serving and becoming more involved in the operation of our society, please contact Pat in the office (780-428-8842) or any of the current directors. We thank Jonathan for his service!

After serving as WPSS Events Coordinator for many years, Rick Meunier has decided to step down. Thank you, Rick, for the great work you have done over the years! Rick is remaining on the board as a director. Sandra Mooney will be assuming the position of Events Coordinator. We look forward to her bringing new ideas and fresh energy to the position!

All committee reports, including the Financial Statements, were presented in the AGM Booklet you were given at registration. In case you did not keep this and wish to review the reports, you can link to the AGM Booklet here.

Once again please note that we have 3 vacancies on the Board of Directors and help with the Newsletter/Website would be very much appreciated!

Please consider stepping up and contributing your creative talents to the operation of your society.

Saturday, September 28    25th Anniversary Celebration

WPSS will be celebrating its 25th year! Please plan to join us for this great event featuring recognition of “Caregivers” – those dedicated souls who support and encourage us polio survivors and others afflicted with a variety of disabilities.

SWIM PROGRAM

Hi All,

Our swim program is up and running again on a limited basis. The main pool is open and we have the guys from Equality Fitness back leading the exercise sessions. However, the warmer, smaller teaching pool is still under construction, getting the ramps and rails upgraded to standard. There has been a delay in the process and the new opening date is listed as APRIL 12!

Hope to see you all back then!

POOL SCHEDULE CHANGE

Saturday, December 23 was our scheduled pool event but due to a number of people deciding that they would not attend as planned we asked the city to cancel that date and they did so. As a result, Tuesday the 19th was our final session of 2023. Our next pool session will be March 5, 2024. Hope to see many of you there!

IMPORTANT CHANGE TO SWIM SCHEDULE!

Our Tuesday swim schedule has been changed. The city had planned on closing the pool on Tuesday, December 19 but have now changed this.

THE POOL WILL BE OPEN FOR OUR REGULAR TUESDAY MEET ON DECEMBER 19.

However, the scheduled closure will now occur on December 30.

We will have access on the 19th and the 23 of December. The pool will then be closed until Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Note that the small, warmer, teach pool will continue to be closed through the end of March.

REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM CHANGES

GOOD NEWS!!

The Reimbursement Program monetary claim limits have been adjusted to reflect our current financial situation. The claim limits which had been set at $1000.00 per polio survivor member per year have now been raised to $1500.00, effective November 1, 2023!

Please take advantage of this great program and DO make sure that you read the rules which must be adhered to for each claim you submit. The January Polio News will once again give a rundown on what you must do to have successful claims.

UPCOMING POOL CLOSURES

For those of you utilizing the Swim Program, please note that the ACT Pool will be closed on Tuesday, December 19, 2023

The pool complex will also be closed for an extended period from Dec 30, 2023 until March 5, 2023. The main pool will re-open at this time. The small teaching pool will remain closed until the end of March 5, 2023.

WPSS will be offering reimbursement for fees incurred at alternative pool facilities during the time of complete closure. This payment will not be counted against your $1500.00 reimbursement limit. You may use the same reimbursement claim form as you use for regular reimbursement claims.

Board Meeting Nov 13, 2023

Our final Board Meeting of 2023 is happening on Monday, November 13. Make sure you give Pat a call if you have anything you would like brought up.

Remember that your membership is due January 1 for the 2024 calendar year. You must be paid up to receive WPSS benefits!

 

 

Jubilations Dinner Theater – ”Old Time Rock and Roll”

Just take those old records off the shelf! That’s what Michael Edwards is doing. You see, when he decides it’s time to clean out the attic, he stumbles upon his stash of old records that have been collecting dust for decades. Let the nostalgia trip begin! Come and jump back in time with Michael to that bygone age when TVs were a huge piece of furniture that sat on the floor, and phones were olive green and hung on the wall! All the greatest records, containing all the greatest songs, are in that attic just waiting for us to let them spin again. Jubilations Dinner Theatre presents Old Time Rock ‘N Roll… through the wonder years!
